After the Skoda Kushaq, the company plans to introduce the petrol-powered Skoda Kodiaq and update its SUV line-up in the Indian market. Aside from the two SUVs, Skoda India is also planning to bring in two more sedans.
Skoda has confirmed the launch of the facelift Kodiaq SUV, which was supposedly delayed due to the pandemic. Zac Hollis, Director, Skoda Auto India, has confirmed that the upcoming SUV will also go through a cosmetic change and not only a drivetrain revamp.
The 2021 Skoda Kodiaq will be launched in the market by the third quarter of 2021 and could see a price tag close to Rs 35 lakh mark (ex-showroom). The exterior changes are expected to be subtle, with a mildly tweaked set of bumpers on either end along with blacked our trim bits. Expect a newly designed and up-sized set of alloy wheels on offer. The cabin is expected to get minor tweaks as well, and the steering wheel could be the new two-spoke wheel seen on the updated Superb and the new Skoda Kushaq.
It will be the first time that the Kodiaq will see the light of day in the BS6 era where Volkswagen Group has done away with diesel engines. The Skoda Kodiaq will re-enter the market with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, similar to what we’ve seen on the Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace.
Upcoming Skoda Kodiaq’s 2.0-litre petrol unit is expected to make the same power output as that of the Tiguan Allspace – 187bhp and 320Nm of torque. To give you an idea of the power gains and torque deficit, the diesel variant of the Skoda Kodiaq produced 148bhp and 340Nm of torque. The gearbox on offer will be the same seven-speed dual-clutch automatic unit, which will send the power to all the wheels via an all-wheel-drive system.
Skoda has confirmed that the next-generation Octavia will be launched by April, and deliveries will commence in May this year. Following the sedan will be the Kushaq, which will be launched by mid-June 2021 and will be delivered to its customers by July. The Kodiaq Petrol will be launched in Q3, 2021, i.e expect it by August-September 2021. Skoda also has a new sedan in the works for the Indian market, which will be positioned below the Octavia and will make its India debut by the end of 2021.
