Skoda Auto has taken the wraps off its Elroq compact electric SUV, and it is the company's first production EV to embody all the attributes of the new 'Modern Solid' design language, with the most distinctive element being the 'Tech-Deck' (Skoda speak) face. The Tech-Deck face is a flatter and wider interpretation of the brand's traditional butterfly grille. Flanking the grille on either side are split headlamps with 'four-eyes' headlight graphics. The LED technology comes standard with the horizontally positioned headlamps, while Matrix LED lights are optional. In addition to a connecting light strip, there is a sharply contoured bonnet with the Skoda lettering in dark chrome, a first for the production Skoda model. At the rear, the EV sports slim wraparound LED taillamps, a prominent roof spoiler, and centrally positioned lettering on the tailgate.

Skoda says aerodynamic elements – including clean surfaces, active cooling vents, and vertical air vents – help the Elroq register a drag coefficient of 0.26. The car in the image is finished in a new Timiano Green colour, one of the 9 colour options offered by Skoda. The wheel size ranges from 19 inches to 21 inches.

Measuring 4,488mm long with a 2,765mm-long wheelbase, the Skoda Elroq sits on Volkswagen Group’s MEB modular electric car platform, making it the third Skoda to do so after the Enyaq and the Enyaq Coupe. The platform supports both single- and dual-motor configurations.

The Skoda Elroq gets three battery options under the hood. The entry-level Elroq 50 gets a 55kWh battery with a 168bhp rear-mounted motor, resulting in a range of over 370km. The Elroq 60 with a medium-capacity 63kWh battery and a 201bhp motor delivers a range of more than 400km, while the Elroq 85 is equipped with a larger 82kWh unit boasting a range of over 560km. All are WLTP figures. The top-end Elroq 85 comes in both rear-wheel and all-wheel-drive systems, with the latter one (Elroq 85x) to arrive in 2025. Its electric motor develops 282bhp.

Skoda Elroq: Charging Capabilities

Using a DC fast charger, the Skoda Elroq 50 and 60 can be charged at up to 145kW and 165kW, respectively, going from 10-80 per cent in under 25 minutes. With a maximum of 175kW, the largest 82kWh battery can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in 28 minutes.

Skoda Elroq: Interior

Skoda Elroq Interior

As for the interior, the Elroq combines minimalism with sustainability. Drawing inspiration from the Enyaq, the Elroq features a 13.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a physical button bar. There is also a small digital driver's display and an augmented reality head-up display. Skoda has also integrated an AI-powered bot from ChatGPT into the Laura voice assistant. Other bits include remote parking, remote charging, and the new Skoda wallbox.

Focusing on sustainability, the Elroq's interior is offered with a range of recycled materials including the dark blue RecyTitan fabric – containing 78 per cent recycled PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) and 6 per cent fibres from recycled clothing – and TechnoFil. The latter is a combination of 75 per cent recycled Econyl fibre and 25 per cent polyester.

The Elroq can hold 470 litres of luggage and up to 1,580 litres when the seats are folded down. It will be available in standard, Sportline, and First Edition versions. While the model has been launched at around € 33,000 (roughly Rs 30.63 lakh) in the European market, we expect Skoda to bring the model to our shores sometime in 2025.
