The Sub-4 meter Kia Sonet has now become larger and joined the seven-seater SUV party, although exclusively in the Indonesian market.
The seven-seater Kia Sonet has been unveiled in the Indonesian market. The model that comes equipped with seven seats is longer than the model sold in India. The overall length of the seven-seater Sonet is 4,120mm as opposed to the 3,995mm of the one on sale in India.
Given its extra length, Kia was able to accommodate the third row, with a few tweaks to the cabin and cargo space. The second row of seats has been reworked as well. The second row now offers split-folding functionality and can be slid forward to give easy access to the third row of seats. Additionally, the third row can be folded down to offer an increased boot space. However, the seats do not fold flat to offer a flush boot floor.
In terms of powertrain options, the seven-seater Kia Sonet gets a 1.5-litre petrol engine, which puts out 113bhp and 144Nm of torque. The gearbox options on offer are a six-speed manual and a CVT automatic. The 1.5-litre diesel, 1.0-litre turbo petrol, and 1.2-litre N.A petrol engine options that we get in the India-spec Sonet are missing in the seven-seater (Indonesian) model. The seven-seater Kia Sonet is unlikely to be launched in the Indian market, as the compact SUV would miss out on the tax benefits for vehicles under four meters in length.
