Renault has slashed the prices of its Lodgy MPV by up to Rs 96,000. The move is hardly surprising since the Lodgy is one slow-selling vehicle for the manufacturer, with its monthly sales averaging out at 500-600 units in the past few months. The current discounts, however, are only applicable on the 85PS variants of the Lodgy.
The Lodgy was launched just over a year ago in the country. It’s available in two states of tune of the same 1.5-litre diesel engine – 108.5bhp (110PS) and 83.8bhp (85PS). There is no doubt that Renault launched it with an aggressive sticker price in the beginning, but considering that it was primarily targeted at the Toyota Innova, its performance in the market has been rather underwhelming thus far. As a product, the Lodgy is clearly struggling to attract MPV customers to Renault showrooms. With the new Innova and the Honda BR-V entering the market, life has become even more difficult for the Lodgy.
The standard or base 85PS version gets a price cut of Rs 96,000 while the RxE – both 7 and 8 -seater – are now cheaper by Rs 80,000. Prices of the RxL and RxZ variants have been reduced by Rs 55,000 and Rs 34,000, respectively. Here’s the revised price list (ex-showroom, Delhi)
85PS Std (8 Seater) - Rs 7.59 lakh
85PS RxE (8 Seater) - Rs 8.57 lakh
85PS RxE (7 Seater) - Rs 8.57 lakh
85PS RxL (8 Seater) - Rs 9.44 lakh
85PS RxZ (8 Seater) - Rs 10.99 lakh
By slashing the prices of the lower powered versions of the Lodgy, Renault may also be trying to eat into Maruti Suzuki Ertiga’s sales. That said, the Ertiga diesel, priced between Rs 7.08 lakh and Rs 8.66 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), is still considerably more affordable.
