The new Dacia Spring EV, which is based on the Renault Kwid that's made in India, received a massive update for 2024 in February. The update brought the Spring EV in line with the Romanian car manufacturer's latest design language seen on the new Duster. While the Spring EV is on sale in the international market under different nameplates, it will be offered as the Renault Kwid EV in India if we were to believe market reports. We expect Renault to bring its Kwid EV sometime in 2025.

In the meantime, a test mule of the Renault Kwid EV has been spotted testing in India. Based on the Dacia Spring EV, the Renault Kwid EV will stand out from the standard Kwid with an enclosed grille, redesigned bumpers, large air intakes, and a charging port behind the logo. Other expected changes include a split headlamp design, a shark-fin antenna, an integrated spoiler, a rear windshield wiper, vertically stacked reflectors, and steel wheels.

Renault Kwid EV: Interior

Renault Kwid EV Interior Spotted

Though the spy images limit what we can see, there seems to be a big, freestanding touchscreen infotainment system, probably with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. We can also spot a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, circular air-con vents, and a new centre console. Aside from these features, the company could equip the car with a digital instrument cluster, a wireless phone charger, and automatic climate control.

Renault Kwid EV: Powertrain

The Renault Kwid EV, already on sale as the Dacia Spring EV across the globe, could come with two powertrain options in India – a 26.8kWh battery pack paired with a 44bhp electric motor and a 26.8kWh battery pack with a more powerful 64bhp motor. The Spring EV sold abroad offers a WLTP-claimed range of around 220km on a full charge, while a DC charger enables fast charging from 10 to 80 per cent in 45 minutes. The Spring additionally offers Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) tech.

At launch, the Renault Kwid EV could be priced at around Rs 7 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The model will rival other affordable electric cars in the segment, such as the MG Comet EV and the Tata Tiago EV.
