The Renault Austral, which is based on the third-generation CMF-C/D platform, made its global debut in March 2022. It is available in two versions in the European market – standard and long-wheelbase. Fast forward to the present day, spy shots capture the Austral SUV undergoing testing on Indian roads.
While there is no word on Renault bringing the Austral to India, Renault could be evaluating using the hybrid powertrain setup in a future Indian product. One can expect the India-spec Renault Duster to get a hybrid powertrain, given that the global-spec Duster comes with two electrified variants: 1.6-litre petrol-hybrid and 1.2-litre petrol-hybrid. Unlike the Austral, the upcoming Renault Duster rides on the smaller CMF-B platform, which will also spawn the Duster-based Nissan mid-size SUV.

Renault Austral: What Spy Shots Reveal?
Judging by the spy shots, the camo-free test mule of the Renault Austral features wraparound LED tail lamps and the restyled Renault logo right above the Austral lettering. The front portion is not visible, but we expect the SUV to get a big grille, sharp LED headlamps with boomerang-shaped daytime running lights, and a sporty bumper.
Renault Austral: Powertrain
Under the hood, the global-spec Renault Austral gets three powertrain options – E-Tech full hybrid (a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, electric motor and high-voltage starter-alternator), mild-hybrid advanced (a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder, 48V lithium-ion battery and starter motor), and older-styled mild hybrid (a 1.3-litre four-cylinder petrol, 12V lithium-ion battery and starter motor).
