Priced at Rs. 2.03 crore, the new Range Rover Sport SVR churns out 550 bhp of max power from its 5.0 litre supercharged V8
Land Rover has quietly slipped in a not so elusive top-end high performance model of its fourth generation Range Rover, in the form Range Rover Sport SVR in India at an ex-showroom Delhi price of Rs. 2.03 crore. In comparison, the Range Rover Sport Autobiography is priced at Rs. 1.74 crore (ex-showroom Delhi).
This flagship high performance derivative of the Range Rover continues to be powered by the company’s 5.0 litre supercharged V8 petrol engine that now develops an even higher power output of 550 bhp of max power and 680Nm of peak torque. This is 47 bhp and 51Nm higher than the maximum power and torque outputs of the Range Rover Sport. And if you are wondering, 0 – 100 km/h is dealt with in 4.7 seconds. The Range Rover Sport SVR was developed with nearly 1,000 laps of testing on the Nurburgring that resulted in a best lap time of 8 minutes and 14 seconds, which is rather good for an SUV of its size and of course considering its off-road credentials.
In order to deal with the added oomph under the bonnet, the driveline of the Range Rover Sport SVR can deal with additional torque in lower gears for its four-wheel drive system. The eight-speed ZF sourced automatic gearbox now has up to 50 per cent faster shift times as compared to the standard Range Rover Sport. The unit is tuned to deliver more aggressive gearshifts and delayed upshifts when it detects sportier driving from the driver. The throttle is automatically blipped during high speed downshifts to smoothen ratios between downshifts. Something called corner recognition holds onto a gear while the high performance SUV is going around bends. The active rear locking differential has also been recaliberd in the SVR for greater cornering capabilities.

The vehicle gets a two stage active exhaust system with electronically controlled valves to deliver a roaring exhaust note in sync with the spirited nature of the SUV. The cross linked four wheel air suspension of the Range Rover Sport SVR is revised to deal with the sporty nature of the car. The vehicle also has an Active Roll Control (ARC) feature which reduces body roll during high speed cornering without the use of traditional anti-roll bars by using actuators to power a hydraulic pump.
The Range Rover Sport was always a very capable high performance luxury SUV and the SVR model surely looks capable enough to further the Range Rover brand in India.
