JLR India has announced the commencement of local assembly for select variants of the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport SUVs. The Range Rover Sport's Dynamic SE will be available with a 3.0-litre petrol or diesel engine, priced at Rs 1.40 crore, offering a savings of up to Rs 29 lakh. The full-size Range Rover comes in two trim levels: the 3.0 Diesel LWB HSE at Rs 2.36 crore and the 3.0 Petrol LWB Autobiography at Rs 2.60 crore (all prices mentioned are ex-showroom), both with price reductions of up to Rs 56 lakh. Despite the local assembly initiative, many other variants will continue to be imported as CBUs. JLR's Pune facility, which already assembles the Range Rover Evoque, Range Rover Velar, Land Rover Discovery Sport, and Jaguar F-Pace, will handle the local assembly of the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. Notably, India is the first market where JLR locally assembles both models.

Rajan Amba, Managing Director, JLR India, said: 'This is a proud moment for all of us in India, as we become the first country to locally manufacture the iconic Range Rover. It is testament to the quality standards we have successfully achieved in local manufacturing in India, that are at par with JLR standards globally. Manufacturing the Range Rover family locally will bring together the best of both worlds, as outstanding British design, technology and refinement meets the pride of owning a ‘Made in India’ luxury vehicle.'
How does Local Manufacturing Benefit Indian Buyers?
Local production is expected to significantly reduce wait times for Indian customers, who have shown a strong appetite for the luxurious SUVs. "Local manufacturing of the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport in India is the next significant step towards the brand consolidating its position as the most desirable modern luxury SUV family in the country," explained Lennard Hoornik, Chief Commercial Officer at JLR.
Both petrol and diesel engines will be offered for the domestically produced Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, with 393bhp and 550Nm produced by the petrol engine and 346bhp and 700 Nm by the diesel engine, respectively. Delivery of the Range Rover will start immediately, followed by the Range Rover Sport in August.
