Ahead of its release next month, the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-Door has been spotted in its production-ready avatar. In the leaked images, the model was undisguised, providing a glimpse of its updated front-end styling and side profile. The Mahindra Thar five-door is anticipated to arrive on the Indian market on August 15, as has been the custom with many significant car launches from the leading homegrown carmaker. Mahindra Thar Armada Five-Door: Styling Elements
The striking red Thar 5-door, seen in the leaked photos, is reminiscent of the tough Mahindra Classic from the 1990s, only newer, better, and more powerful. The new front grille is apparent in the multiple test mule photos. In addition to having an entirely fresh front fascia, the 5-door Thar has a 6-slat grille as opposed to the current 3-door model's 7-slat grille. The broader, wider, and more pronounced grille slates lend the lifestyle off-roader a more aggressive appearance.
Instead of being all black like it is on the current Thar, the front bumper is now finished in silver. The indicators are mounted separately on the wheel arches, and the foglamps remain tucked away in the bumper. According to the previous spy shots, the new Thar receives all LED headlights with C-shaped LED DLRs. The side profile is unchanged, except for its length and the extra rear doors. The model is slated to gain modified LED taillights and recognisable spare wheel mounted on the tailboard. The wing mirror has a camera, indicating that the upcoming SUV will boast a 360-degree camera setup. Furthermore, the back door handle is fixed to the door frame.
Mahindra Thar Armada Five-Door: Engine Specs
Like the Thar 3-door, the SUV is anticipated to come with the same 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engine options. The former produces 150bhp and 320Nm, while the latter delivers 130bhp and 300Nm. A six-speed manual or automatic gearbox will be available to go along with either engine choice. Although all four wheels will receive power, we anticipate that rear-wheel drive variants will also be available.
Mahindra Thar Armada Five-Door: Interior Updates
The off-road SUV's cabin will receive extensive interior updates, including several upscale creature comforts and cutting-edge technologies. These include a larger free-standing touchscreen infotainment system, a reworked dashboard with a digital instrument console, manual day/night IRVM, connected car features via AdrenoX, a rear centre armrest, dual-zone climate control, button start-stop, USB type-C charging ports, and electrically retractable ORVMs. It is also expected to offer a dual-pane sunroof for higher-spec variants and a single-pane sunroof for the lower variants.
The Mahindra Thar Armada's safety list will likely consist of front parking sensors, a 360-degree surround camera system, and six airbags. Moreover, an ADAS suite with automatic emergency braking, driver drowsiness alert, and adaptive cruise control may be available.
Mahindra Thar Armada Five-Door: Price
In India, the retail price of the current-generation Mahindra Thar ranges from Rs 11.35 lakh to Rs 17.60 lakh. The 5-door version, with several updates over its 3-door predecessor, is expected to carry a starting price tag of Rs 15 lakh. All mentioned prices are ex-showroom.
In line with the company's overarching goal to introduce a wide range of new models and bolster its market position, Mahindra's SUV lineup will strategically expand with the introduction of the Thar 5-door.
