Porsche's upcoming high-performance Taycan Turbo GT has just broken the Nurburgring lap record of the Tesla Model S Plaid, clocking 7:07.55 minutes on the Nordschleife to complete a lap of the legendary race track (20.8km in length). Meanwhile, the Tesla Model S Plaid, which was spotted featuring the Track Package at the Nurburgring in June 2023, has the Nurburgring lap record of 7:25.231 minutes for a production EV.

Driven by Porsche development driver Lars Kern, the range-topping Taycan Turbo GT shattered not only the Model S Plaid's EV lap record by 17.681 seconds but was also 26 seconds faster than the current Taycan Turbo S sports sedan. However, the 'pre-series' Taycon Turbo GT remained split seconds behind the Rimac Nevera. In August last year, the electric hypercar from Rimac Automobili came out on top with 7:05.298 minutes, outperforming the Tesla Model S Plaid by around 20 seconds.

Porsche Taycan Turbo GT: What to Expect?

While not much is known about the upcoming Taycan Turbo GT, Porsche could equip the model with a 986bhp three-motor setup for it to keep pace with the Model S Plaid (1,006bhp). Besides, expect the new car from Porsche to get a revised chassis and new aero elements such as a carbon fibre spoiler.

Porsche has yet to reveal the exact specifications of the Taycan Turbo GT; however, it did say that in comparison to the Taycan Turbo S, the top-spec Taycan Turbo GT 'was a good 25km/h faster heading into the Schwedenkreuz', and completed the full lap more than 1.3km ahead of the Turbo S.

Porsche Taycan Turbo GT: Features

Given the fact that the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT will be a top-spec model in the Taycan's lineup, modifications over the Turbo S will include revamped bumpers, new headlights, a rear air intake, and a massive rear wing. For safety reasons, Porsche equipped the pre-production car with racing bucket seats and a roll cage, the latter of which could not be found in the production-spec version.

Porsche Taycan Turbo GT's Nurburgring Lap Record: Comments

Kevin Giek, Head, Taycan model line, said, "Twenty-six seconds is half an eternity in motorsport. Lars’ lap time of 7:07.55 minutes on the Nordschleife is sensational, putting the Taycan in the same league as electric hypercars".

"And the impressive thing about it is that over several laps, Lars clocked almost exactly the same time."
