Porsche has voluntarily recalled certain Taycan EV units in India due to a faulty battery module. The recall affects specific units where the battery may not perform properly, potentially impacting the car’s performance and safety. Affected Taycan owners will be contacted for repairs, including replacing or fixing the faulty battery module. This recall highlights the importance of addressing battery issues in electric vehicles. For the uninitiated, the facelifted Taycan EV arrived on our market earlier this year. As for the price, the base variant of the Porsche EV retails for Rs 1.89 crore, whereas the top-of-the-line variant costs Rs 2.53 crore. Both prices are ex-showroom. The car is available in two variants and can be purchased via authorised dealerships across India.

Porsche Taycan EV Recall: Key Details
Porsche has recalled over 176 units of the Taycan electric sedan due to a possible fault in the battery module or cell. The affected vehicles, built between October 21, 2019, and March 4, 2024, may have a defective battery module supplier system. This issue could lead to a short circuit within the battery, increasing the risk of a fire after thermal throttling.
This latest round of recall is part of a wider global recall impacting electric vehicles in several markets. In October this year, over 27,500 Taycan units, built during a certain time frame, were recalled. This recall coincided with Audi's decision to recall its e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT models, produced between 2022 and 2024, due to a battery fault that could lead to a fire hazard. Both recalls were initiated to address safety issues related to the vehicles' battery systems.
