America bought 1/3rd of the 918 Spyder cars made by the German luxury carmaker.
Yes. Porsche just sold all the 918 units it made of its 918 Sypder Hybrid car. The limited edition supercar found maximum buyers in America and a little less in Germany and China. Not so long ago, we had written about a very few numbers of these cars available and now after a little over a month, it’s all gone. Porsche’s head of Research and Development, Mr. Wolfgang Hatz, confirmed the news. America bought 297 of these models, Germany and China bought almost 100 pieces each of these rarest-of-the-rare Porsches.
Confirming the news, Mr. Hatz said, “I was always convinced we’d sell out, and what is most satisfying is that the sales have accelerated as reviews confirmed the car is everything we promised it would be. We set out to take a different approach to our rivals, to build a car that was at the extremes of performance and efficiency, and we proved that we could achieve both. Our customers now know that we are ready for whatever the future holds.”
He also added that a successor to this car will arrive soon too, “Will we build a successor to the 918? Yes. Not immediately, but not in 20 years time either. When you build such a car you learn so much, and this business moves so fast that there are always new challenges to meet. When you develop such cars you also develop a generation of engineers, and I’m confident that all they have learnt will feedback into the company for many years. We want to keep that momentum, so for sure there will be a successor to the 918 at some point.”
This handmade car is powered by a hybrid engine that produces 887bhp of maximum power and can do 0-100kmph in as little as 2.5 seconds. The price tag of this exclusive Porsche starts from $ 9,58,880 which makes it one of the very few cars that cost almost $ 1 million.
