Porsche has introduced two new Panamera E-Hybrid models, the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid and Panamera 4S E-Hybrid, to meet the growing interest in e-Hybrid powertrains. These newer models are better in every way, including electric range, charging time, and general performance. Both versions are currently available for purchase, with shipping scheduled to begin in the Q2 of 2024. In the beginning, Porsche's four-door sedan was available in two internal combustion engine (ICE) variants, namely the Base and the Panamera 4, as well as one plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) type, that was the Turbo E-Hybrid, which was the most advanced model. The Turbo E-Hybrid pairs a robust 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with an electric motor, while the 4 E-Hybrid and 4S E-Hybrid versions utilise the 2.9-litre V6 twin-turbo engine from the ICE variants along with an electric motor.
Porsche Panamera: Design and Features
The most recent Panamera models use a standard design that is accentuated by the absence of a rear window frame, a seamless taillight and matrix LED headlights. With its elegant black brake callipers, 19-inch alloys, ParkAssist technology, and a handy chilled tray for wireless smartphone charging, the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid is a car unlike any other. The Panamera 4S E-Hybrid stands out with its impressive 20-inch wheels designed with the Panamera AeroDesign, silver Sport tailpipes, and noticeable red brake callipers.
Each new Panamera model comes equipped with a standard adjustable two-chamber air suspension and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM). Individuals looking to improve their driving experience can choose for the Porsche Active Ride active suspension, which enhances grip and cornering performance while maintaining comfort.
Porsche Panamera: Powertrain and Performance
Both versions in the propulsion field are powered by a 2.9-liter V6 twin-turbo engine paired with a 140 kW electric motor. The hybrid system in the 4 E-Hybrid has a peak output of 464bhp and 650Nm of torque, while the 4S E-Hybrid has a greater peak performance of 537bhp and 650Nm of torque.
The 4 E-Hybrid goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds, while the 4S E-Hybrid does it in 3.5 seconds, just 0.3 seconds slower than the Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid with a powerful 4.0-liter V8 engine. Both variants come with a 25.9 kWh battery that offers an electric-only range of 96 km. They also feature an 11 kW AC charger that can fully charge the battery in two hours and 39 minutes.
The Panamera E-Hybrid models mix efficiency and performance with four carefully designed driving modes specifically for E-Hybrids, in addition to improved Sport and Sport Plus modes. The modes adapt the vehicle's operational strategy based on the driving scenario, route guidance, and the battery's charge level.
The newest Panamera model is now on sale in India, with prices starting at Rs 1.68 crore (ex-showroom). New variants are expected to be added to the line-up later.
