Porsche amps up the power and appeal of the Macan Turbo with the Performance Package.
Performance SUVs – love them or loathe them but there’s no getting away from the fact that there’s something hugely alluring about these high-riding monsters. While a lot of manufacturers are now into the business of making high-performance SUVs, there’s one brand that does it slightly better than the others – Porsche. So to prove that it still is the king of performance SUVs, the Stuttgart-based sportscar manufacturer has introduced a new Performance Package for the already insane Macan Turbo. And the end-result of that is that the Macan Turbo is now significantly quicker than before – in fact, it’s now 911 level quick!
Let’s quickly get down to the updates then. In the Performance Package, Porsche engineers have fettled the 3.6-litre twin-turbo V6 of the Macan Turbo to produce 40bhp and 50Nm more than before. This means power output is now up to 432bhp while the peak torque has risen to 600Nm. Coupled to a 7-speed PDK dual clutch transmission, it will now do 0-100km/h in 4.4 seconds – an improvement of 0.4 seconds! Top speed has also increased by around 6km/h to 272km/h.
Other than that, the Performance Package adds an uprated braking system, controlled sports chassis, Sport Chrono Package ride height and sports exhaust system while the ride height is now lowered by 15mm. Air-suspension is optional, and the front wheels now house bigger brake discs with a diameter of 390 millimetres - 30 millimetres larger than the brake discs fitted on the standard Macan Turbo.
Customer deliveries of the Porsche Macan Turbo with Performance Package are set to begin by end of 2016. As expected, Porsche is commanding a premium of around £5,500 (Rs 4.87 lakh) in the UK, meaning it’s priced at £68,073 (~ Rs 60.36 lakh).
