Porsche makes the Macan more affordable with the launch of the entry-level R4 model, sporting a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine.
Since its launch, one of the biggest drawbacks of the Macan has been its exorbitant price. But now the German car maker has introduced a new entry-level variant ‘R4’ at Rs. 76.84 lakh (ex-showroom Maharashtra). This makes it not just the most affordable Macan but the most affordable Porsche ever!
Hiding under the bonnet of the Porsche Macan R4 is a 2.0-litre turbocharged in-line 4-cylinder petrol engine that makes max power of 248bhpof max power between 5,000 - 6,800 rpm and peak torque of 370Nm between 1,600 - 4,500 rpm. All this power is sent to all-four wheels via Porsche’s 7-speed PDK gearbox. Being the entry-level spec, it isn’t as powerful as the Macan S Diesel and Macan Turbo. Porsche claims that the Macan R4 can do the 0-100km/h dash in just 6.7 seconds (6.5 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono package) and record a top speed of 229km/h.
In terms of features, the Macan R4 comes with Porsche Stability Management (PSM), eight-way sport seats, Porsche Active Suspension Management, Tyre Pressure monitor and more. This Macan comes standard with air suspension and electronic damping control. In terms of safety, the Porsche Macan R4 comes with front airbags and window airbags. Side airbags are available as optional equipment. While it does come as well equipped, it misses out on a few luxury features that its more expensive variants come equipped with.
With the launch of the Macan R4, Porsche has not just make their brand more accessible to a larger audience but also brought it directly in the range of the Jaguar F-Pace. And with that in mind, the Porsche may just have the first mover’s advantage being a petrol as the F-Pace is only available in diesel currently.
