Pandemic? What pandemic? Porsche India delivered 474 units in 2021 despite the ongoing challenges and supply issues. With 187 units sold, the Macan was once again the company's best-seller in India.
Porsche India is on a roll! With 474 sports cars sold in 2021, the Stuttgart-based carmaker’s Indian subsidiary recorded its highest-ever sales figure in the country. According to Porsche India, its sales went up by a whopping 62% as compared to its sales in 2020. Porsche also claims that orders for its cars grew by 165% last year, making it the brand’s best-ever order intake in India.
Porsche India says that, on average, it sold one SUV every single day of the year. That’s understood because the best-selling Porsche in India last year was the Macan – the carmaker sold 187 units of the compact-luxury SUV to customers across the country. This means that the Macan contributes 39% to Porsche’s overall sales in India right now. As you’d expect, the next best-selling model was the Cayenne SUV (and Coupe).
While Porsche India won’t reveal the exact numbers, it said that the demand for its range of two-door sports cars (the 911, Cayman, and Boxster) grew significantly, and they now hold a 17% combined share in the company’s annual sales.
Commenting on the company’s strong sales in India, Manolito Vujicic, Brand Director, Porsche India, said: 'Following a challenging first half of the year due to the impact of the pandemic on people’s lives and businesses, the retail performance from July to December established a new record for us. A total of 301 cars were delivered to new and established customers during the final six months, endorsing a positive outlook leading into 2022 on the back of future-oriented facility investment plans by our associates. Additionally, we look forward to welcoming two new partners to Porsche India with the arrival of Bangalore and Chennai to the retail network in the coming months.'
Porsche India is expecting to have another strong year on the sales chart in 2022. With new products like the all-electric Taycan, 911 GT3, 718 Boxster, and Cayman GTS 4.0, Porsche is hopeful to repeat or even better its last year's feat. In addition to that, Porsche will bring the Taycan GTS, as well as the recently revealed Platinum Edition models of the Cayenne and 718 Cayman GT4 RS, to India very soon.
