After multiple teasers, Nissan has unveiled its fourth-generation X-Trail SUV for the Indian market. The X-Trail will be sold in a seven-seat configuration in the country, although five-seat and seven-seat versions are available for the model sold abroad. The launch date is still under wraps; however, we know that the SUV will be brought to our market through a CBU (completely built unit) route. The model will be available in limited numbers, according to Nissan.
The new X-Trail is built on the same Alliance CMF-C platform as the Qashqai. In terms of dimensions, the X-Trail is 4,680mm long, 1,840mm wide, and 1,725mm tall, making it 255mm longer, 5mm wider, and 100mm taller than the Qashqai. It also features a longer wheelbase at 2,705mm, about 40mm more than the Qashqai. The turning radius and ground clearance, on the other hand, stand at 5.5m and 210mm, respectively.
Nissan X-Trail: Design
Design-wise, the X-Trail gets a dark chrome-finished V-Motion grille and split headlamps with LED daytime running lights at the front. In profile, it features diamond-cut alloy wheels, along with rounded wheel arches, while the rear end has wraparound tail- lamps. At launch, Nissan will offer the following colour options – Diamond Black, Champagne Silver, and Solid White.
Nissan X-Trail: Interior, Features
The Nissan X-Trail features a freestanding touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, a digital driver's display, a three-spoke steering wheel, a dual-pane sunroof, a wireless phone charger, keyless entry, and dual-zone climate control.
As expected, Nissan confirms the presence of a 360-degree camera and paddle shifters. Other notable bits include an electronic parking brake, traction control, cruise control, auto hold, hill-start assist, ABS, a limited-slip differential, seven airbags, and front parking sensors. A 40:20:40 split-fold arrangement is available for the second row, along with sliding and reclining functions. Nissan also offers 50:50 split-folding rear seats that also slide and recline.
Nissan X-Trail: Powertrain
Under the hood, the X-Trail gets a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine and a 12V mild-hybrid system, thereby producing 161bhp and 300Nm of maximum torque. Transmission is a shift-by-wire CVT automatic unit, which claims to have negligible rubberband effect. Upon arrival, the fourth-generation X-Trail will join the Magnite compact SUV in Nissan India's lineup. It could set its pricing between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 35 lakh (ex-showroom), given that it will be an import.
