Nissan has previewed its upcoming X-Trail through a teaser, nearly two years after the company showcased it in India. While the Nissan X-Trail has been on sale in international markets for a while now, the teaser indicates that it will be launched in our market soon. Initially introduced in India in 2004, the X-Trail was the first Nissan for our market and received a single facelift across its lifecycle. Since it was a completely built unit (CBU), the X-Trail couldn't be competitively priced compared to the locally assembled SUVs, eventually leading to its discontinuation in India.
Upon arrival, the fourth-generation X-Trail will join the Magnite compact SUV in Nissan India's line-up. If the teaser is any indication, expect the new Nissan X-Trail to feature split headlamps, inverted L-shaped LED daytime running lights, and a V-Motion grille with horizontal slats. Other expected elements include dual-tone alloy wheels, wraparound taillamps, door cladding, a shark-fin antenna, and an integrated spoiler.

Nissan X-Trail: Platform, Powertrain
Like its sibling, the Qashqai, the new X-Trail is built on the Alliance CMF-C platform, which focuses on lightweight construction. Overseas, the model gets multiple powertrain options, including a 1.5-litre hybrid and a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol. But, the latter is expected to find a home in the India-spec X-Trail. The 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine makes 201bhp and 305Nm of peak torque while mated to a CVT gearbox.
Nissan X-Trail: Features
Features-wise, the India-spec X-Trail will likely offer a large touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, and multifunction steering wheel. Other expected features are dual-tone upholstery, automatic climate control, an electronic parking brake, an engine start-stop button, and an ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems) suite. The model is offered in either 5-seat or 7-seat configurations in global markets.
