Nissan recalls 52,000 units because of the explosive airbags manufactured by Takata Corporation – a Japanese airbag manufacturer.

Not so long ago, Honda had recalled some of its cars worldwide due to the same issue – the faulty airbags made by a Japanese firm known as Takata. The airbags had the tendency to explode causing serious injury to the occupants of the car. The pressure inside the inflator rises drastically which causes the airbags to shoot shrapnel when deployed.

So far, almost eight million cars have been recalled by almost 10 major manufacturers across the globe over the same Takata airbags. The cars affected include Infiniti FX35 and FX45 from 2003 to 2005, Infiniti I35 from 2003 and 2004, Infiniti M35 and M45 from 2006, Pathfinders from 2003 and 2004, and Sentras from 2004 to 2006. These recalled vehicles were either sold or registered in one of the 12 states in the U.S. that have fallen prey to this situation. The high humidity in these states can cause the air bag propellant to burn too fast and can blow the metal canisters.

The situation gets serious with the fact that Takata has 22% share of the world airbag market. And this is also not the first time when Nissan has recalled its cars over faulty airbags. Last month too Nissan recalled 1,800 Infiniti QX56 SUVs from 2013 and the QX80 from 2014.

The Japanese car manufacturer also said that it will notify the owners and replace the faulty airbag inflator for free. The owners from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas and the territories of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Saipan, Guam and American Samoa will be covered under this recall.
