The sub-4m Nissan Magnite SUV has been designed and developed in Japan, with a clear focus on the demands of Indian customers.
A while back, we had informed our readers that the Nissan Magnite will make its global debut on 5th October. However, due to some reasons (which Nissan has not disclosed), the debut got delayed by a few days and now, Nissan has officially announced that the all-new B-segment SUV will make its global premiere, in its production-ready form, on 21st October. As confirmation, Nissan has also released some images (and a video) of a production-ready prototype undergoing testing at the Nissan Tochigi Proving Ground in Japan.
Sharing his thoughts on the Magnite, Mr Rakesh Srivastava (MD – Nissan Motor India) said, 'The Nissan Magnite has been specially designed in Japan, keeping in mind the requirements of our Indian customers. It is a bold offering in the sub-four-meter category, and we are confident that the Nissan Magnite will redefine the B-SUV segment by breaking boundaries. We are very excited to bring this game-changing product to India.'
However, Nissan has still not released any confirmed details about the car's powertrain options or features. If recent reports are to be believed though, the Magnite's USPs will be its clever, well-packaged interior and a segment-leading list of features. So, expect the Magnite to offer features like LED lighting, a 360-degree surround-view camera, steering-mounted controls, an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, cruise control, etc.
To give the Magnite an edge in a rather competitive segment, Nissan might offer many of these premium features as standard even on the lower trim/variant options.
Powertrain-wise, the Magnite is expected to arrive with two engine & three gearbox options. While the engine could be a 1.0-litre three-cylinder (turbo/naturally-aspirated) unit, the list of gearbox options could include manual, AMT, & CVT automatic units.
After its global debut on 21st October, the Nissan Magnite is expected to launch in India sometime in January 2021. The final launch date is yet to be announced. It will be manufactured at Renault-Nissan's plant in Tamil Nadu, for domestic and international markets.
