Nissan reveals striking looking Kicks compact SUV ahead of May 2nd debut.
Nissan has revealed its Kicks compact SUV ahead of its planned official debut set for the 2nd of May, 2016. From the images here we can see that Nissan has a good job in terms of styling the Kicks. While the front profile of the car is rather ordinary to look at with a boxy looking small grille, the bumper design is very normal as well, the swept back head lamps get a sort of eye brow on top and that’s about it. Gazing at it from the side though is a different story as the car has sharp lines running along, flared wheel archs, colour contrast roof, black A and B pillars, angular rear quarter window and C pillar, angular wrap around tail lamps and black plastic cladding running along the bottom of the car. Its much the same story around the back as well with those sharp lines, varying contours and angular tail lamps.
All in all, the new Nissan Kicks looks fairly modern and will appeal to younger SUV buyers who aspire to own an SUV. Being a compact SUV, the Nissan Kicks will take on the likes of the Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster when it is launched in Brazil.
As of now it has not been decided whether or not the Nissan Kicks will make it to India. But considering the high demand for compact and mid-size SUVs in India, the Kicks would do well against its competitors such as the Hyundai Creta, EcoSport and Duster although it would then be positioned bang against the Nissan Terrano. Although the Terrano isn’t doing particularly well on the sales charts as of now.
Not much else is known about the new Kicks as of now apart from the fact that it is based on Nissan’s V Platform which also underpins cars such as the Micra and Sunny currently being manufactured in India.
Should the model make it to India, powertrain options are likely to include the 1.5 litre, four cylinder, turbo diesel engine currently doing duty in Nissan models in India along with the 1.6 litre, four cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine. Gearbox options are likely to include a five-speed manual transmission and an optional CVT autobox.
