The Nissan GT-R R35 will be discontinued in North America in October 2024 after 17 years of production run. The manufacturer has not provided specific reasons for retiring the model that was unveiled during the 2007 Tokyo show. Notably, North America was one of the last international markets to sell the GT-R, following its discontinuation in Australia in 2021 and in European markets in 2022. Now, Nissan USA is set to bid farewell to the legendary all-wheel-drive sports car with two celebratory editions: Skyline and Takumi. Let's take a closer look at these exclusive models in detail.

Takumi and Skyline Limited Editions: Key Highlights
Based on the GT-R Premium, the Skyline limited-run version has a Bayside Blue exterior paint job and a blue interior. On the other hand, the Takumi Edition is a modified 2024 GT-R T-Spec. It includes bigger front fenders, gold RAYS forged wheels, carbon-ceramic brakes, and a distinctive midnight purple paint job. The edition is crafted by master craftsmen, known as Takumi, and their work is honored with red calligraphy on the external emblems and a gold VIN plate located in the engine bay. Under the hood, the special variants have a 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V-6 that makes 557bhp.
In its press release, Nissan confirmed 'Both models are expected to arrive at select U.S. Nissan dealers this summer. Fewer than 200 units will be available, making this a rare and exclusive exit from the North American market.'
Why Nissan Is Biding Adieu to the Iconic Sportscar?
All good things inevitably come to an end, and the GT-R is no exception. The iconic car's 17-year-old existence is finally set to end later this year. The current-generation GT-R arrived in 2007, replacing the R34 Skyline GT-R. Called affectionately 'Godzilla,' the GT-R consistently achieved remarkable outcomes in the automotive industry through two significant redesigns, several limited editions, and frequent performance enhancements. It acquired prominence in the tuning circle, with some upgraded versions generating beyond 986bhp.

In its press release, the automaker did not specify the cause for the model's discontinuance but claimed 'While the R35 GT-R leaves an unforgettable legacy, Nissan is now hyperfocused on the future and the next era of exciting innovation in performance.' Notably, the carmaker unveiled the Hyper Force, an electric GT-R concept, last October, but the model is unlikely to arrive anytime soon.
