A major highlight of the new ES90 is its high-performance computing system, making it the first Volvo model to integrate a dual Nvidia Drive AGX Orin setup.
Volvo has released a teaser for its upcoming ES90 electric sedan, set to make its global debut on March 5. Positioned as the electric successor to the S90, the ES90 is expected to feature Volvo’s latest advancements in design, technology, and sustainability. While details remain limited, the teaser hints at a sleek and modern aesthetic, in line with Volvo’s evolving EV lineup. Built on the brand’s advanced electric platform, the ES90 will likely offer a premium interior, cutting-edge safety features, and an extended driving range. As Volvo continues to shift towards an all-electric future, the ES90’s unveiling will mark another key step in the company’s electrification strategy, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable mobility and innovation.
Previous glimpses of the EV highlighted its roof-mounted LiDAR unit, a recognisable window structure, seamlessly integrated door handles, and streamlined roof design. Its front fascia is anticipated to take cues from the EX90, incorporating the brand’s signature “Thor’s hammer” LED headlights. Following its initial teaser last year, Volvo has now shared more images showcasing elements like a distinctive taillight arrangement. While the ES90 retains a traditional three-box sedan shape, additional LED elements near the rear window enhance the primary taillights, creating a unique lighting pattern.
Built on the same SPA2 architecture as the EX90, the ES90 will launch ahead of Volvo’s next-generation SPA3 platform, which is set to debut with the EX60 in 2026. A major highlight of the ES90 is its high-performance computing system, making it the first Volvo model to integrate a dual Nvidia Drive AGX Orin setup. This marks a significant upgrade in processing power, surpassing the EX90, which currently combines a single Orin chip with an older Nvidia Drive AGX Xavier processor. The Swedish automaker has, however, confirmed that EX90 owners will receive a free hardware upgrade to match the dual Orin configuration.

With dual Orin chips, the ES90 will be capable of executing approximately 508 trillion operations per second (TOPS), significantly enhancing battery efficiency, AI-driven safety functions, as well as real-time sensor data interpretation. The company has also stated that this increased computing capability will allow AI-based systems to evolve and adapt as they collect more data. The upcoming electric sedan will also feature Volvo’s latest safety and driver-assistance suite, known as Safe Space Technology. This system will integrate twelve ultrasonic sensors, LiDAR, 8 cameras, and five radar units.
As it shares its foundation with the EX90, the ES90 is expected to use the same 111kWh battery pack, offering a projected range of over 600 km under China’s testing standards. It will be available in a dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) configuration, with a more affordable single-motor rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variant also planned.
Additional details will be revealed in the coming weeks when the ES90 makes its global debut in China, followed by its rollout in other markets before the end of this year.
Concurrently, the company is revamping the S90 sedan to ensure that an ICE-powered option remains available alongside the new electric version. Leaked images suggest a dramatic redesign, with a completely refreshed front and rear, giving the sedan a more up-to-date appearance.

First launched in 2016 and lightly updated in 2020, this latest revision extends the S90’s lifespan as a combustion-engine option amid Volvo’s increasing focus on electric vehicles. Whether the V90 estate will receive similar design changes remains uncertain. Last month, Volvo announced that two of its existing models would undergo “meaningful upgrades” this year, with one of them already confirmed as the recently revised XC60.
