Volkswagen brings the second generation of the new Beetle to India, this time with a powertrain that will ensure the car is as exciting to drive as it should be
Volkswagen has launched the second generation of the new Beetle in India at Rs. 28.73 lakh, ex-showroom Mumbai. The second generation Volkswagen Beetle is referred to as the A5 model since it is based on VW’s A5 (PQ35) platform. While the model has been around internationally since 2011, it had stayed away from Indian shores until now.
Since the launch of the previous Beetle in India, things have changed in the automobile market here and the Beetle itself has evolved considerably.
What we have here then is a thoroughly modern offering with a 1.4 litre, four cylinder, turbocharged, direct injection petrol engine with 149bhp on tap while power is channeled to the front wheels via a seven-speed double clutch automatic gearbox. You even get paddle shifters for the gearbox while the car also features regenerative braking and start / stop system.
The Beetle has always been an iconic vehicle and this new model comes loaded to the hilt with features to pamper occupants and give the vehicle a nice niche. Some of the equipment highlights include a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, mood lighting, dual zone climate control, an eight speaker sound system, automatic headlamps and wipers, an extensive driver formation display, height adjustable front seats, cruise control, etc.
VW has left no stone unturned for the Beetle on the safety front with the vehicle being fitted as standard with ABS, ASR, EDL, ESC, EDTC, front, side and curtain airbags with passenger airbag deactivation, front underbody protection, hill hold, front and rear parking sensors with display and brake pad wear indicator.
On the occasion of the launch, Michael Mayer, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars said, “The Beetle is an iconic car that has scripted automotive history for over six decades, and we are delighted to announce the India launch of the 21st Century Beetle. Carrying forward its unmistakably timeless charm, blended with modern day technological sophistication, the 21st Century Beetle now comes with rounded yet masculine proportions and a host of refined, irresistible internal and exterior features. We are confident of continuing the Beetle’s legacy in India and we believe that the biggest addition to the 21st Century Beetle is the element of unlimited ‘fun’.”
Volkswagen India has launched the new Beetle in a choice of four colours, namely, Habanero Orange, Oryx White, Tornado Red and Blue Silk.
