Available with both petrol and diesel engines, the second-gen Toyota Fortuner gets revised styling, updated interior and comes loaded with a lot of new features and tech.
After a long wait, Toyota has finally launched the new-generation of its popular SUV, the Fortuner, in India. Priced between Rs 25.92 lakh and Rs 31.12 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the new Fortuner is offered in both diesel and petrol versions while it also receives a comprehensive makeover on the inside-out.
The Fortuner entered the Indian market in 2009. While it received minor updates between then and now, the SUV remained virtually unchanged for the past 7 years. In the new model, however, everything has changed. First up is the design. As opposed to the bulbous looks of the outgoing model, the new Fortuner sports sharper design lines, although you can argue that its aggression has been toned down a bit. Design highlights include new sleek LED projector headlamps with DRLs, LED tail-lamps, new bumpers and a lot of chrome on the bodywork.
Inside, it’s a similar story. The interior has been completely revamped, albeit it looks similar to the Innova Crysta. That said, the dashboard, door panels, steering wheel and seats are wrapped in high-quality leather, which gives it a more upmarket & premium feel. Equipment wise, it gets a new touchscreen infotainment system, new instrument cluster with multi-information display, push start/stop, automatic headlamps, cruise control, automatic climate control, tilt-and-telescopic steering, power tail-gate, 8-way electrically adjustable driver seat, cooled glovebox, rear parking camera, etc.
Engine options include a 2.8-litre diesel and a 2.7-litre petrol. The former develops 174bhp and 420Nm, and can be specified with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. The petrol motor churns out 163bhp and 245Nm, and comes paired to either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. 4WD is only available with the diesel. All the automatic versions come with paddle shifters as standard. Both the powertrains also feature ‘Eco’ and ‘Power’ driving modes.
On the safety front, the new Fortuner comes with 7 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC with brake assist, hill-assist control, downhill assist control (only on 4WD), etc
The new Toyota Fortuner is offered in six trims. Below is the variant-wise pricing,
