Tesla has revealed a coupe of high tech EVs - a crazy fast car and a super sophisticated truck.
California-based Tesla has taken the veil off its latest supercar - the second-generation Roadster. In typical Tesla fashion, this 2+2 seat targa top machine isn’t your average EV.
As per Tesla, this is EV will dismiss the 0-60 mph (0-97km/h) sprint in just 1.9 seconds - yes, you read that right! Furthermore, the car can do 0-160km/h in 4.2 seconds and complete a quarter mile (0.4 km) sprint in 8.9 seconds. If these claims turn out to be true, then Tesla’s humming EV will smash big gas-guzzling monsters like the the Bugatti Chiron and Koenigsegg Agera S without breaking a sweat.
Well, this isn’t where the Roadster’s record-breaking capabilities end. Tesla has equipped its new supercar with a 200kWh battery pack, enabling it to have a whooping 998km range - a first for any EV.
Since the Tesla Roadster will only arrive in its production guise sometime in 2020, details on its powertrain have not been shared as yet. However, Tesla has already opened bookings for the first 1,000 units of the Roadster, at USD 250,000 (~Rs. 1.6 crore) each. More key specifications are expected to be revealed as the launch nears.
Tesla Semi
Along with the new Roadster, Tesla also unveiled its much hyped electric truck, dubbed Tesla Semi. The Semi can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 5 seconds, and haul about 36 tonnes. A unique element of Tesla’s debut truck is that it places the drive in the centre of the cockpit.
Obviously, Tesla’s love for screens has also made its way to the Semi, which houses two large touchscreens on either side of the steering wheel. Expected to arrive in the US in 2019, the Semi is claimed to go around 800km before its batteries drain out. The new truck will also sport semi-autonomous driving, where it can steer back into its lane and brake on its own as well.
