Skoda’s new SUV will be larger than the Yeti in size and will be offered with a seven-seat option

It has been reported that Skoda’s upcoming SUV will be christened the Kodiak as opposed to being called the Snowman, suggested in earlier reports. Skoda has also confirmed that the company will showcase its new SUV at the next Paris Motor Show in October of 2016.

The new Skoda Kodiak will be positioned above the Yeti and will be a seven-seat model. This means that Skoda will finally have a rival for large premium SUVs in India, such as the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Chevrolet Trailblazer, etc. And considering the success of the Fortuner in our market, it’s a pretty good segment to be present in.

Based on Volkswagen’s second generation MQB platform, the new Skoda Kodiak should have good road presence thanks to its fairly large and tall profile. An aspect that works wonders for buyers in the segment. Skoda will be offering the Kodiak in both five-seater and seven-seater avatars as well as in front-wheel drive spec and all-wheel drive spec.

Powertrain options for the Skoda Kodiak will include the 2.0 litre, four cylinder, turbo diesel engine and the 1.8 litre, four cylinder, turbo petrol engine, both of which currently serve Skoda models including the Octavia and Superb in India. Both engines will be offered with a choice of either a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed automatic gearbox.
