Skoda Auto India has confirmed the launch of its new compact SUV in March 2025. The sub-4m SUV will be pitched against the likes of the Tata Nexon and Maruti Suzuki Brezza, and will be based on the MQB A0-IN platform that serves as the backbone of the Slavia and Kushaq. While not much is known in terms of design, the recently released teaser image suggests that the new Skoda SUV will carry over some elements from the company's Modern Solid design language. Based on the teaser, we can say that the vehicle will get the brand's signature grille, split LED headlamps with daytime running lights, a large air vent, a muscular bonnet with creases similar to that of the Kushaq, beefy wheel arches, and roof rails.

With the upcoming compact SUV, Skoda India aims to achieve sales of 1 lakh vehicles in India by 2026 while targeting a 5 per cent market share by the end of the decade. The company has yet to disclose the name of the SUV; however, it would be one out of these five – Kwiq, Kymaq, Kylaq, Kariq, and Kyroq.

New Skoda Compact SUV: Powertrain

The new Skoda SUV will likely use the same 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, TSI petrol engine as the Kushaq and the Slavia – both of which underwent a price hike in January 2024. This made-in-India engine is capable of churning out 115bhp and 178Nm of peak torque. On offer will be a six-speed manual and a six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

New Skoda Compact SUV: Price

Skoda's new SUV will be priced competitively in India, according to Skoda CEO, Klaus Zellmer. Though the price announcement is some time away, we expect it to be offered in the range of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). At this price point, the car will compete against the likes of the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, and others in the segment.

Skoda also says this SUV will not be limited to our market; it will subsequently find its way to South America, Southeast Asia, and Africa.

Skoda Enyaq iV to Arrive in 2024

Showcased early this month at the Bharat Mobility Expo, the Skoda Enyaq iV will go on sale in the country by the end of this year. This will mark the Czech brand's entry into the electric vehicle segment, and will be based on the Volkswagen Group’s born-electric MEB platform that underpins the Volkswagen ID.4 and the Audi Q4 e-tron.

While the company has yet to confirm, expect the Enyaq iV 80x model to come to India through a CBU route. If that's the case, the EV will be equipped with a 77kWh battery pack and two electric motors – one on the front axle and one on the back axle. According to Skoda, 0 to 100km/h comes up in 6.9 seconds, while the range is marked at 513km.
