Apart from having more power, Porsche's idea was to make the car more aerodynamically efficient.
Porsche has globally launched the 911 GT3 RS and its Indian wing has announced a price tag of Rs 3.25 crore (ex-showroom, India). Porsche has made the elixir meaner with more power and major upgrades to the car’s aerodynamics, including the largest wing to ever be fitted on a road-going 911. Also, it features the brand’s drag reduction system that has never been used on a production car before.
The car is powered by a 4.0-litre flat-six engine that outputs 542bp. It breaches a tonne in just 3.2 seconds and goes on to reach up to 296kmph. The engine is mated to, according to Porsche, an improved 7-speed dual-clutch. It has one gear less and shorter gear ratios as against the standard 911. In addition to this, the car also gets three drive modes including Normal, Sport and Track.
Aerodynamics is the name of the game in the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS. The new model produces more than twice the downforce of its predecessor and three times more than the existing 911 GT3. Porsche says that at 200kmph, the car is capable of producing 409kg of downforce which increased to 806kg at 284kmph.
Somewhere while making it more aerodynamic, the car lost its boot. The new GT3 RS is the first road-going car that gets a radiator positioned centrally in its nose. This was first used in the brand’s Le Mans winning 911 RSR.
The car also has the largest swan neck rear wing that has ever been fitted on a road-going 911. It measures around six feet in width and is taller than the car’s roof. In addition to this, the car also gets new side blades, wing inlets and rear splitter, which is a modified version of the one seen on the regular 911.
The car comes in a Clubsport package for track usage at no additional cost. This includes a fire extinguisher, six-point seatbelts and a steel rollover bar. Furthermore, there is an optional Weissach pack which adds carbon weave to the bonnet, exterior mirrors and rear wing. Like the Clubsport, this also gets a rollbar, gearshift paddles with magnet technology and magnesium forged wheels.
