Mini India has begun accepting bookings for the new Cooper S and Countryman ahead of their launch in India. Prospective buyers can make reservations for the same online on Mini's official website. Revealed in September 2023, the new-generation Mini Cooper is a 3-door hatch in its fourth generation, while the Countryman is the company's first made-in-Germany vehicle available in a third-generation guise. The latter is a 5-door offering from Mini.
Though it appears similar to the outgoing model, the 2024 iteration of the Mini Cooper S has grown in dimensions, with larger wheels and a longer wheelbase – set in contrast to the car's short overhangs and a short bonnet. Up front, the hatch is shaped by a new octagonal grille, circular LED headlamps, as well as adjustable light signatures in tune with a minimalist exterior design. In profile, the 2024 Cooper S gets newly designed wheels, while the door handles are flush. At the rear are triangular LED tail lamps with adjustable OLED tech and a 'Union Jack' motif.

As for the other product, the third-generation Mini Countryman measures 4,433mm in length, 1,843mm in width, and 1,656mm in height, making it about 130mm longer and 60mm taller than the previous version. Like the new Mini Cooper, the Mini Countryman crossover also gets an octagonal grille, configurable LED daytime running lamps (offering up to 3 lighting signatures), and revised headlights & tail lamps. Other bits include the reworked C-pillar treatment as well as 20-inch wheels.
New Mini Cooper S, Countryman: Interior, Features
Inside, the new Mini Cooper S and Countryman get a curved dashboard with textile surfaces, along with a round (9.4-inch) OLED touchscreen displaying information related to travel, navigation, and battery status. Below the touchscreen is a host of toggle switches for engine start/stop and gear selector. In addition, the cars can be had with adjustable seats (with a massage function), connected car tech, fisheye in-car camera, and ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems). The Countryman gets up to Level 2 ADAS tech, making it the first Mini to do so.
New Mini Cooper S, Countryman: Powertrain
In terms of powertrain, the new-generation Mini Cooper gets both petrol and electric options, both available in standard and S variants. The electric lineup of the Mini Cooper consists of two powertrain options – E and SE. The Cooper E uses a 40.7kWh battery pack (with a 305km range) and churns out 181bhp and 290Nm of torque, while the Cooper SE makes 215bhp and 330Nm, and has a driving range of 402km (WLTP) owing to a battery capacity of 54.2kWh.
The petrol-powered Mini Cooper, meanwhile, gets two engine options: a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine with 154bhp, and a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine with 201bhp. The former is offered in the Cooper C, while the latter can be had with the Cooper S. We expect the India-spec Cooper S to use the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine as the global-spec version. According to Mini, the Cooper S can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 6.6 seconds.
Coming to the Countryman, the model will arrive in an all-electric avatar. Upon arrival, the car will likely be equipped with a front-mounted electric motor, rear-wheel-drive arrangement (the Countryman E). Overseas, the setup makes 201bhp of power and 250Nm of peak torque, resulting in a claimed 0 to 100km/h time of 8.6 seconds. The top speed is marked at 170km/h.
In terms of mileage, the Countryman E yields a driving range of 462km on the WLTP cycle. However, the battery specifications are yet to be revealed. Apart from the Countryman E, Mini also sells the two-motor, all-wheel-drive Countryman SE ALL4 in the lineup.
