BMW India puts the new Mini Convertible on sale at Rs 34.9 lakh.
Drop-top motoring and Mini fans rejoice! BMW has launched the all new Mini Cooper S Convertible in the country at a price tag of Rs 34.9 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). In its third-generation now, the Convertible joins the Mini Cooper hatch and Countryman models in Mini's portfolio for India.
As has been the case in the past, the third-gen model is also based around the Cooper hatchback and looks remarkably the same with similar LED headlamps and DRLS and a retro-modern exterior. Inside, it’s a similar story as well. It comes fitted with similar levels of features and equipment as its hatchback counterparts. Of course, it trades the hardtop for a soft-top roof mechanism. Mini says the roof can be retracted in just 18 seconds – an operation that can also be done on the move, provided the speeds are kept below the 30km/h mark.
Since the Convertible is underpinned by the same UKL platform as the Cooper hatchback, it’s now 98mm longer and 44mm wider while its footprint has also increased by 28mm over the outgoing model. This translates into a more spacious cabin, claims Mini. The luggage space is also increased by 25 per cent to 215 litres, giving the car a touch of practicality.
Powering the India-spec Mini Convertible is the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that powers the Cooper S hatch. The engine is rated at 189bhp and 280Nm. Coupled to a 6-speed automatic sending power to front wheels, the Convertible will hit 0-100km/h in 7.1 seconds. Top speed is 228km/h. Mini further claims that it sips fuel at the rate of 14.59km/l.
The Mini Convertible will be brought into the country as a CBU. And now you can also order yours with a woven Union Jack graphic on the roof.
The Mini Cooper S Convertible does not have any direct rival in India as of now, but the Audi A3 convertible comes closest to offering a similar kind of experience.
