New MG4 EV Hatchback Debuts Globally with 161bhp Single-motor Powertrain
The new-gen MG4 debuts with a smoother design, larger size, and improved space, aiming for better comfort and practicality in the EV market.

The new-generation MG 4 electric hatchback has made its global debut, marking a key step for MG in the EV market. It will first launch in China before expanding to other markets. The MG 4 enters its second generation with a smoother design, replacing the sharper lines of the previous model. While details about the cabin, technology, and full powertrain are not yet revealed, the new model appears more refined. The MG 4 is larger than before, measuring 4,395 mm in length, 1,842 mm in width, and 1,551 mm in height, with a 2,750 mm wheelbase. It is 117 mm longer, 6 mm wider, and 45 mm taller than the previous model, with a matching 45 mm longer wheelbase. The larger size suggests more interior space, better legroom, and a more stable ride, making it practical for families and daily commutes.

The exterior design now has a softer shape. The front keeps the sharp nose but adds new headlamps and a redesigned bumper with smaller side vents and a larger lower intake. The side profile has a gentler shoulder line that rises towards the rear. The pull-style door handles remain, while the window line has an upward kink at the rear quarter glass.
At the rear, the MG 4 features connected tail lamps with a lip spoiler below the rear windshield. This design improves aerodynamics and gives the car a wider, more planted look. The rear styling reflects modern EV trends, blending function with a clean design.
MG has confirmed one powertrain variant so far—a single motor producing 161 bhp. Battery details and other specifications are yet to be announced. However, MG might introduce more powertrain options. An all-wheel-drive version, like the previous model, is also likely.
