New Mercedes-Benz G-Class world debut on January 15, 2018

Merc has been teasing the new G-Wagen for some time now, and even unveiled the upcoming SUVs interiors a few weeks back. The upcoming model will be the first major overhaul of the G-Wagen in almost 40 years.

The all-new G-Wagen will feature all the contemporary technology underneath, while still retaining the outgoing model’s iconic design.

Through an official teaser, Mercedes has confirmed that the all-new G-class or G-Wagen will be globally revealed on January 15, 2018 at the upcoming 2018 Detroit Auto Show.

The German carmaker has been teasing the new G-Wagen for some time now and even unveiled the upcoming SUVs interiors a few weeks ago. The upcoming model will be the first major overhaul of the G-Wagen in almost 40 years. While Mercedes will retain the characteristic boxy profile on the new model, everything under the skin would be brand new.

Thanks to a new platform, Mercedes is said to have reduces the G’s weight while increasing its overall footprint. Expect the new model to be about 160kg lighter and around 20mm wider. On the inside, the rear legroom is boosted by a 150mm, the shoulder room by 38mm and the elbow room by 68mm.

On the powertrain front, the new G will be propelled by a 4.0-litre, turbocharged V8 petrol motor from AMG, that will pump around 410bhp of power and 610Nm of torque in its base form and 600bhp and 850Nm in the more powerful version. The AMG V12 which is found on the outgoing model is likely to be axed.
