Mercedes-Benz will take the wraps off the fifth generation E-Class at the 2016 Detroit Motor Show
Mercedes-Benz will be taking the wraps off its new generation E-Class executive luxury saloon on the 11th of January at the 2016 Detroit Motor Show. In its fifth generation the E-Class is based on the company’s MRA modular architecture incorporating aluminum bits, this platform also underpins the current gen C-Class and the upcoming GLC SUV. This means the new E will be lighter, more efficient and rigid than its predecessor.
In a teaser video released by the company, Mercedes has teased the profile of the car a little which reveals that the new car will have more swooping lines as opposed to the sharper design cues of the fourth gen model. Rendering images reveal a more CLS-Class like profile. The roofline though remains the same as that of the current model. In line of the current design culture for Mercedes models, the grill of the car in the teaser is a bold and sporty unit with a centrally mounted star, although production versions will also be available with a more sober classic multi-slat grille with the three pointed star mounted atop the bonnet.
The video also reveals the new headlamps of the car which incorporates Multibeam technology with anti-dazzle and active bending, motorway high beam, etc to offer optimum and safe illumination. The CLS also comes with Multibeam headlamps, while the E-Class’ one will get 84 individual LEDs.
Engine options for the new car include a 2.2 litre, four cylinder diesel, a 3.0 litre V6 diesel, a 2.0 litre four cylinder petrol, a six cylinder petrol unit and the 4.0 litre Bi-turbo V8 in the AMG model. Hybrid options will be availed later.
