New Mercedes-Benz CLA Marks Global Debut with Electric and Hybrid Powertrains
The 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA will first be available as a fully electric version, with hybrid options set to follow at a later stage.

Mercedes-Benz has introduced the next-generation CLA, a refreshed take on its entry-level coupe-inspired sedan. The 2026 model will first be available as a fully electric version, with hybrid options set to follow at a later stage. The new iteration adopts a refined and sophisticated evolution of its predecessor’s design. The front and rear are characterised by sleek, uninterrupted light strips, while flush-mounted door handles create a smoother, more aerodynamic profile. Despite its coupe-inspired styling, the CLA remains a traditional four-door sedan with a standard trunk. The model's aerodynamic efficiency is particularly noteworthy, with the most optimised version achieving an exceptionally low drag coefficient of 0.21. Beneath the surface, a newly engineered multi-link rear suspension – derived from Mercedes’ more premium models – enhances ride comfort and driving dynamics. Wheel sizes range from 17 to 19 inches, further influencing handling and overall driving experience.
New Mercedes-Benz CLA: Dimensions
In terms of proportions, the 2026 CLA has grown compared to the outgoing model. Its overall length has been extended by 33mm, reaching 4,722 mm. The width has increased by 25mm to 1,854 mm, while the height has risen by 28mm to 1,468 mm. The wheelbase has also been lengthened by 61mm, now measuring 2,789mm, contributing to a more spacious cabin.

However, cargo capacity in the trunk has slightly decreased to 405 litre, a reduction of 54 litre from the previous model. To compensate, the EV introduces a front trunk (frunk), adding an extra 71 litre of storage space.
New Mercedes-Benz CLA: Diverse Powertrain Options
The electric CLA range includes the CLA 250+ with EQ technology, engineered for a driving range of up to 792 km based on WLTP testing. This variant is equipped with a 268bhp electric motor positioned at the rear, drawing energy from an advanced 85kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery. For those seeking a more robust alternative, the CLA 350 4MATIC features an AWD configuration, delivering 349bhp while achieving a range of 770 km. The CLA 250+ also supports rapid charging, allowing it to regain up to 325 km of driving range in 10 minutes.

Beyond its fully electric models, the premium German carmaker plans to bring in a hybrid version soon. This version will feature a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine paired with a 48-volt lithium-ion battery with a 1.3kWh capacity and an integrated electric motor. Power delivery is managed through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, optimising fuel efficiency.
New Mercedes-Benz CLA: Interior
Shifting focus to the interior, the centerpiece is the brand's Superscreen system, which combines a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, and a 14-inch display (optional) for the front passenger. These cutting-edge interfaces run on the latest MB.OS platform, incorporating AI-driven functionalities with support for Microsoft Bing, ChatGPT, and Google Gemini. The system also enhances the in-car experience by enabling video streaming and gaming.

In variants that forgo the Superscreen, the premium German carmaker has replaced the passenger display with an elegant glass panel accented by LED-illuminated star motifs. Another unique feature is the mood ring system, which detects the driver’s emotional state and automatically adjusts the ambient lighting.
