Maserati reveals the first official images of the Levante SUV.
Say hello to the Maserati Levante – the first ever SUV in the Italian manufacturer’s history! The new uber-luxury SUV will make its debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, while commercial sales will commence in the second half of the year, confirmed Maserati.
Like the Bentley Bentayga or the Jaguar F-Pace, the Maserati Levante is a luxury crossover that is meant to tackle smooth tarmac than off-road trails. And that’s something which is clearly reflected in its design. The Levante looks like a sportscar on stilts – the aggressive front design, tapered headlights and a massive radiator gill give it a sleek and menacing look. The side profile echoes similar design ethos as it features frameless doors, tastefully designed Y-shape alloy wheels, tapered back window and a stubby rear end. At the back, design highlights include a roof-mounted spoiler quad-channel exhaust pipes.
Maserati has not revealed all the technical details of the car as yet, but it has confirmed that the Levante will be offered with both petrol and diesel engines. Expect it to feature the company’s 3.0 V6 petrol and diesel engines that currently do duty on the Ghibli sedan. The range-topping variant may get a petrol V8 from the Quattroporte. As per Maserati, the new SUV will get all-wheel drive, 8-speed automatic transmission, and electronic suspension with controlled damping and air springs as standard.
Production of the Maserati Levante has already begun at the company’s Mirafiori plant in Turin. The company has confirmed that the first cars have already rolled out of the assembly line. After its launch in European markets, the Levante will go on sale in other parts of world by the end of 2016. Expect Maserati to reveal more details including engine specifications, interior shots, pricing, availability, etc. at the Geneva Motor Show. Stay tuned…
