While no official launch date is set for the next-generation Swift, Maruti Suzuki is most likely to introduce it in India in May 2024. One of the most popular hatchbacks from Maruti Suzuki, the Swift will make its market entry in a new avatar in the second week of next month. The new Maruti Suzuki Swift made its international debut at the Tokyo Motor Show 2023. It is in its fourth generation now and is on sale in Japan, the UK, and certain European markets.
The Japan-spec Maruti Suzuki Swift gets a Z Series 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, which is also likely to power the India-spec Swift. Expect the power and torque figures to be similar to those of the existing K Series 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol unit. For reference, the K12 engine develops 89bhp and 113Nm of peak torque. As for the transmission, we expect the upcoming vehicle to offer both manual and automatic units, although the company has yet to make it official.
New Maruti Suzuki Swift: Underpinnings
The 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift is based on the latest HEARTECT platform, offering enhanced performance and collision safety. According to Maruti Suzuki, the car's underbody structure ensures smoother energy dispersion during impacts, providing superior protection.
New Maruti Suzuki Swift: Dimensions, Design
The front-wheel-drive version of the new Swift measures 3,860mm in length, 1,735mm in width, and 1,495mm in height. Meanwhile, the all-wheel drive version is 1,520mm tall. Expect the India-spec Swift to get a front-wheel-drive system.
In terms of design, the 2024 Swift is expected to retain the same silhouette as the existing Swift. However, it may receive some design modifications, including a redesigned grille, sharper headlamps and taillamps, revised bumpers, and a new set of alloy wheels.
New Maruti Suzuki Swift: Interior
The changes will continue inside, with a floating touchscreen infotainment system, a new console for AC functions, a 3-spoke steering wheel, and all-LED lighting. Safety-wise, expect the India-spec hatchback to be equipped with six airbags, an anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic stability control (ESP), and 3-point seatbelts for the rear occupants. While the model at the motor show had ADAS features and rear disc brakes, it is unlikely that the India-spec Swift will get the same.
New Maruti Suzuki Swift: Price, Rivals
With all these upgrades, the new Swift is estimated to range between Rs 6 and Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom). Aside from a petrol powertrain, a powerful hybrid powertrain is also on the cards. Upon its launch in the Indian market, the 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift will rival the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios (Rs 5.92 lakh to Rs 8.23 lakh) and the Tata Punch (Rs 6.13 lakh to Rs 9.60 lakh).
Maruti Suzuki: Future Plans
Later this year, Maruti Suzuki plans to introduce the new-generation Dzire in the Indian market. The sedan will borrow the platform and body panels from the Swift; however, it will get a few differentiating elements, like a coupe-like roofline, a new rear glass, and a flat rear boot.
