In India, Maruti Suzuki has reportedly obtained a solid response for the Jimny 5-Door and Fronx SUVs, both of which were displayed at the recently held Auto Expo 2023. Despite Maruti increasing the booking amount for the Jimny 5-Door from the initial Rs 11,000 to Rs 25,000 in the previous week, the Jimny continues to bring in good booking numbers. Reportedly, the off-roader has crossed over 9,000 bookings in India. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx, on the other hand, has only received 2,500 orders. Given that Maruti's Gujarat plant can produce 1,000 units per month for the new Jimny, it is evident that there will be a long waiting period for the model – around at least 6 months or possibly more. However, the Fronx is not anticipated to have such a long waiting period.

In terms of appearance, the new Jimny has a boxy design. It has large windows, round headlamps, five vertical slats on the grille, and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. The muscular wheel arches give it an appearance of being broader than it actually is (1645mm), and the taillights have been positioned lower on the rear bumper.

The India-spec Maruti Suzuki Jimny is 3,985mm long and has a wheelbase of 2,590mm. A 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine powers the SUV and offers 103bhp and 134Nm of torque. The engine is coupled to a four-speed torque converter automatic transmission and a five-speed manual transmission. The SUV comes standard with Maruti's AllGrip 44 drivetrain and will be available in Zeta and Alpha trim levels.

The Fronx, on the other hand, has a sloping roofline, roof rails, and bulky plastic cladding, which gives it a tough appearance. Both Baleno and Maruti Suzuki Fronx have similar underpinnings. Additionally, it will have two engine options: a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine, which produces 89bhp and 113Nm, and a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, which generates 99bhp and 147.6Nm. Although a five-speed manual transmission is standard, both options can be had with an AMT unit or a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Sigma, Delta, Delta Plus, Zeta, and Alpha are the variants for the upcoming SUV in India.
