There's a good chance that the new Celerio's reveal and launch may happen at the same time.
After countless delays caused by multiple lockdowns and the ongoing chip crisis, it seems like the new Maruti Suzuki Celerio finally has a confirmed launch timeline. Some media reports suggest that the new Celerio could be revealed next month and there's a good chance that the price announcement may happen simultaneously.
We had first spotted camouflaged test prototypes of the new Celerio in September last year and those images were enough to reveal quite a few significant details about the second-generation model. Yes, instead of being a facelift, this will be a new-generation model as it will be based on Maruti's Heartect platform. This platform underpins the brand's new models.
The generation change is also confirmed by a fresh design that seems much more rounded compared to the outgoing car. Of course, the changes inside the car are also expected to be significant – a new dashboard layout seems to be on the cards. However, expect a majority of the parts, switchgear and trim to be borrowed from current models..
There seems to be some new information available regarding the new Celerio's engine options. Last year, we were certain that the new model would continue with the same 1.0-litre three-cylinder K10B petrol motor as the current car. But now the new model is expected to get the options of the higher-spec 1.2-litre K12M four-cylinder petrol motor as well. The gearbox options though are likely to remain unchanged.
