Mahindra announced prices of the new Thar and commenced its bookings on 2nd October. The Thar starts at Rs 9.80 lakh (ex-showroom). Its deliveries to start on 1st November.
Less than a week into the launch of the all-new Thar, Mahindra has already garnered 9,000 bookings. Further, the company also claims that it has received more than 36,000 enquiries for the new Thar. Mahindra took the wraps off the new-gen Thar on 15th August and launched it last week on 2nd October. The Thar starts at Rs 9.80 lakh for the base AX trim. The top-end LX trim, with the manual transmission, goes right up to Rs 12.95 lakh. Automatic variants are only in offer in the LX versions and demand Rs 80,000 to 1,06,000 more than their comparable MT variants.
Speaking about the bookings, Veejay Nakra, Chief Executive Officer, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said, 'We are extremely happy with the overwhelming response and excitement that the All-New Thar has created. What is also encouraging is that the All-New Thar has resonated well with lifestyle seekers, families, and women buyers, thereby opening up an entirely new set of customers for this iconic lifestyle 4X4 SUV.
The Thar is now on offer with a diesel as well as a petrol engine option. The former develops 130bhp and 300Nm from a 2.2-litre mHawk unit. The petrol unit, on the other hand, is good for 150bhp and 320Nm. Both engines come paired with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed AT.
Unlike the previous-gen Thar, which primarily appealed to a recreational off-road customer, this new-generation model, with its features and creature comforts, appeal to a wider audience. The Thar now gets features like touchscreen infotainment, cruise control, and climate control.
Although its bookings commenced on 2nd October, deliveries of the new Thar will only start on 1st November. As of now, Mahindra only has the Thar for a test drive in 18 cities across the country. The fact that Mahindra has received more than 9,000 bookings in less than a week has also pushed its share up to around Rs 627 per share, which is an increase of over 3%, as on 12 pm today.
