Based on the Quanto, Mahindra’s new NuvoSport compact SUV is expected to be launched in early April
Mahindra has given the Quanto a once over to re-badge it as this, the NuvoSport. Like the new TUV300, Mahindra will be looking to position the NuvoSport too as a compact SUV. This will undoubtedly strengthen its presence in the segment that is experiencing stiff competition with the introduction of Maruti’s Vitara Brezza and Ford having slashed prices of the EcoSport.
What Mahindra has done here is give the Quanto a significant face-lift to make it the NuvoSport. The front end has been completely redesigned to give it a very butch stance with its high set bonnet featuring a high power dome that houses an air intake. A wide hexagonal grille is flanked on either side by head lamps above which the day time running lamps are mounted separately. The front bumper too is a tall one with the lower section finished in black plastic and housing a large central air dam. The lower side cladding extends to the side profile of the car and around the back. The side and rear profiles of the NuvoSport are largely similar to those of the Quanto apart from refreshed design lines. The tail lamps are still mounted on the D-pillars while the reverse lamps are incorporated in the rear bumper.
Like newer Mahindra’s the NuvoSport to will have a modern interior with decent build quality and it can be expected to come loaded with a healthy equipment list like the TUV300.
The Mahindra NuvoSport features a ladder frame chassis like the TUV and although it’s not known at this point in time, we expect the compact SUV to be powered by the same 1.5 litre, three cylinder turbo diesel with 84bhp on tap.
Speaking on the brand name and images reveal, Pravin Shah, President & Chief Executive, (Automotive), M&M, said, “Today, Mahindra enjoys the strongest equity in the SUV segment in India. Being a customer centric organization we identified a need gap in the market and designed the NuvoSport to meet the needs of those customers who lead an active lifestyle and are looking for a sporty and fun to drive SUV. I am sure that with the addition of the NuvoSport, we will further consolidate our leadership in the SUV segment and effectively address the entire gamut of customer segments across price points ranging all the way from 4.5 lacs to 25 lacs.”
Mahindra will be launching the new NuvoSport during the first week of April and we expect it to be priced competitively.
