The new 2017 Jeep Compass is aimed at being offered as a smaller and more affordable version of the company’s flagship model, the Grand Cherokee.
Jeep has officially revealed three images of its next big model, the Compass. Well, technically the Jeep Compass isn’t really ‘big’ in the literal sense as it has been created to be a compact offering that will be a more affordable take on the company’s flagship model, the Grand Cherokee. And as you can see from the pictures here, the new Jeep Compass indeed features so many of those Grand Cherokee design cues with its wide multi slat grille, sleek head lamps and an overall profile that is identical to that of its inspirational sibling.
The new 2017 Jeep Compass is based on the same platform as the smaller Jeep Renegade which in turn shares its platform with the larger Fiat 500X and 500L models. But the new Compass has little in common with the Renegade in terms of exterior design as the Grand Cherokee inspired model features sleeker lines to sport a similar side and rear profile as well like its bigger sibling. An interesting design element is the chrome lining on the top of the windows which stretched around to the lower section of the rear windshield.
The compass also appears to have very generous ground clearance, something that will aid its off-road credentials. The new Jeep Compass will go on sale with a choice of front-wheel drive only and four-wheel drivetrain options.
A total of 17 powertrain options will be available for the 2016 Jeep Compass globally. This gives you an idea about just how far FCA is aiming to go in selling its upcoming model in over 100 countries. There may even be a manual gearbox equipped model in some markets. The India model will be powered by Fiat’s 2.0 litre MultiJet four cylinder turbo diesel engine with around 170bhp on tap. The Jeep Compass for India will be assembled at the Fiat Ranjangaon facility in Pune.
