Jaguar reveals the more hardcore F-Type SVR. Highlights include an uprated V8 powertrain, lightweight components and some impressive performance figures.
After making the madly powerful Range Rover Sport SVR, Jaguar-Land Rover’s exclusive high-performance division has now given a similar kind of treatment to the Jaguar F-Type. The upshot of that is a new and amped-up version, called the F-Type SVR – an all-weather all-wheel drive sportscar that can crack speeds in excess of 320km/h.
The F-Type has been a pretty hardcore car from the get go. However, the engineers at Jaguar-Land Rover group’s SVR division have tinkered with it further. As a result, the SVR derivative of the sportscar comes with some serious bit of mechanical upgrades. The 5.0-litre supercharged V8 motor has been uprated and it now develops 567bhp and 700Nm – an improvement of 24bhp and 20Nm over the erstwhile range topper F-Type R AWD.
Coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system, the F-Type SVR will hit 0-100km/h in 3.7 seconds – 0.4 seconds quicker than the F-Type R. The SVR will also outdo the 300km/h capable F-Type R with its top speed of 320km/h. The F-Type SVR convertible has a top speed of 314km/h.
According to the SVR division, the chassis of the car has now been modified to make it dynamically more capable. This means the F-Type SVR is 25 kilograms lighter than the R AWD version, while it also gets thicker rear anti-roll bar. Optional upgrades such as carbon fibre roof and carbon ceramic brakes are also available – and these will result in weight savings of another 25 kilograms. Additionally, there’s a new cooling system, a revised diffuser, an active rear wing, wider tyres and a titanium exhaust system.
Inside, the F-Type SVR gets larger aluminium shift paddles along with unique SVR sports seats and upholstery - in addition to the usual features and equipment offered in standard models.
The Jaguar F-Type SVR will go on sale in the UK at a starting price of £110,000 (~ Rs 1.07 crore) for the coupe and £115,485 (~ Rs 1.13 crore) for the convertible. Expect it to be launched in India in a soon while.
