Hyundai Motor India has opened bookings for the new-gen Verna at Rs 25,000 in India. The carmaker has also officially revealed that there will be four variants of the new model – EX, S, SX, and SX (O). Mechanically, the new Hyundai Verna will be available with two petrol engine options – a 1.5 Turbo GDi Petrol engine, which will deliver 158bhp of maximum power and will be mated to either a six-speed manual gearbox (6MT) or a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox (7DCT), and a 1.5 MPi Petrol engine with a 6MT or Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). Notably, these powertrains are E20 fuel-ready and RDE-compliant. There won’t be an option for a diesel engine. The higher trims are expected to come with a 1.5-litre TGDI engine, whereas the base trims are likely to be powered by a 1.5-litre NA engine.

Thanks to teaser images, we know that the new Hyundai Verna will have refreshed design elements. The design language of the car is inspired by some of the latest-gen Hyundai Sedans. The new Verna has a twin-layer headlight setup with a distinctive nose, similar to the one seen on the current-gen Hyundai Grandeur, available globally, along with a wide grille and several cuts and creases. Both the ongoing Elantra sedan, which isn't available in our market, and the Tucson SUV have grille inserts similar to this. In addition, the new Verna has a full-width horizontal light bar, which works as an LED daytime running lamp – a feature previously found on Hyundai models like the Grandeur sedan and the Staria MPV.

The taillights give the Verna a distinctive rear appearance, have crystal-like inlays, and are coupled to an LED light bar. The light bar also gets two vertical extensions on both sides. The Verna's front design may also include a similar setup, although Hyundai hasn't confirmed it.

Hyundai will offer seven single-tone and two dual-tone exterior colour options for the new Verna. Three new paint colours have been added to the model – Abyss Black, Atlas White, and Tellurian Brown. As mentioned, bookings for the model have commenced, and interested buyers can book the car at their nearest Hyundai dealerships. The model will reportedly enter into production in the coming months and is expected to go on sale in India by May 2023. In comparison to its predecessor, the new Verna, according to the firm, will be a stronger competitor to the likes of the VW Virtus, Skoda Slavia, and facelifted Honda City sedan (upcoming).

Sharing his views on the commencement of bookings for the all-new Hyundai VERNA, Mr Tarun Garg, Chief Operating Officer, Hyundai Motor India Ltd., stated, ‘Today, we are glad to announce the commencement of bookings for the next generation of our iconic sedan – the all-new Hyundai Verna.’
