Honda's badge-engineered version of the Elevate SUV, the new WR-V, has made its debut in the Japanese market. The 2024 Honda WR-V shares the same Global Small Car platform as the Elevate, and is also powered by Honda's 1.5-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engine. It, however, is differentiated from the made-in-India Elevate to have its own identity. Honda already sells the rebadged Elevate as the WR-V in markets like Malaysia. However, that is different from the Japan-spec WR-V. Design-wise, the newly revealed WR-V, short for Winsome Runabout Vehicle, features a big grille with a Honda logo in the centre, slim LED headlamps with LED daytime running lights, and fog lamps.

In profile, the Japan-spec WR-V gets squared-off wheel arches with thick plastic cladding and diamond-cut R17 alloy wheels. At the rear, it has the same wraparound taillamps as the Indonesia-spec WR-V as well as a slightly raked window.

New Honda WR-V: Interior, Features

Unlike the exterior that bears no changes over the Elevate, the interior of the new WR-V sports a host of revisions. The cabin has been given an all-black treatment. The seats are upholstered in black as against the rich brown leatherette upholstery found on the India-spec model. Plus, the Japanese version lacks the leather inserts on the dashboard. Features-wise, the Honda WR-V offers a new touchscreen infotainment system with physical controls. In comparison, the Honda Elevate has a 10.25-inch LCD touch-screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Other bits on the WR-V include automatic climate control, steering mounted controls, reverse parking camera, rear aircon vents, as well as the Honda Sensing ADAS suite, which includes collision mitigation brakes, lane watch camera, lane-keeping support system, auto high beam, and adaptive cruise control. But, the car loses key features such as a single-pane electric sunroof and wireless charger. It is a mixed bag in terms of features.

New Honda WR-V: Powertrain

Under the bonnet, the Honda WR-V gets the same 1.5-litre NA petrol engine that is tuned to generate 119bhp and 145Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a CVT transmission. In contrast, the 1.5-litre motor in the Elevate SUV is compatible with both the 6-speed manual and 7-step CVT transmission.

In terms of dimensions, the Honda WR-V measures 4,312mm in length, 1,790mm in width, and 1,650mm in height. It has a 2,650mm wheelbase and 220mm of ground clearance. The Japanese version comes in three variants – X, Z, and Z+ and is offered in 5 monotone colours.
