After a host of teasers, the second-generation BMW X2 has been unveiled before its global debut at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo, which is scheduled to be held from October 26 to November 5. Positioned between the X1 and the larger X3, the new SUV coupe will rival the likes of the Audi Q3 and the Jaguar E-Pace. The 2024 iteration of the X2 is based on BMW's FAAR platform and comes in two versions – xDrive28i and M35i xDrive. Under the bonnet, the car receives two powertrains. Both the BMW X2 xDrive28i and the M35i xDrive come with a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged engine, a 7-speed automatic gearbox with a built-in mechanical limited-slip differential, and four-wheel drive. The peak power & torque outputs for the xDrive28i and the M35i xDrive are rated at 238bhp & 400Nm and 308bhp & 400Nm, respectively. Consequently, the xDrive28i can do the 0 – 97km/h dash in 6.2 seconds, while the more powerful M35i xDrive just takes 5.2 seconds to do the same sprint, thanks to an M-specific exhaust system, stronger crankshaft, an optimised oil supply for the pistons, and engine bearing shells and caps.

New-Gen BMW X2: Dimensions, Design
In comparison to its predecessor, the new BMW X2 has grown in terms of dimensions. It is now 194mm longer, 21mm wider, and 64mm taller, with a ground clearance of 206mm. The car appears fresh with an illuminated kidney grille, new headlamps and taillamps, flared wheel arches, flush door handles, a massive rear diffuser, and a coupe-like roofline at the rear. Optional bits include 21-inch wheels and shallow roof rails finished in black high gloss.
New-Gen BMW X2: Interior
Inside, the new coupe-like SUV features a 12.3-inch infotainment screen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster in a single unit. Furthermore, it offers the latest version of the BMW iDrive display, which is based on BMW OS 9 and is offered with the BMW Curved Display and BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.
Other highlights include the QuickSelect tool enabling activation of certain functions, a cabin-facing camera, a BMW Head-up display, wider AC vents, automatic climate control, Park Assist, electrically adjustable seats, wireless charging, etc. As far as safety goes, the car comes standard with the latest version of the Forward Collision Mitigation system, including collision warning and pedestrian & cyclist warnings with a braking function.
BMW iX2 Unveiled Too
The 2024 BMW X2 will arrive in the US market in March next year. It will be manufactured at the company's Regensburg plant. In addition, the carmaker also revealed the all-new iX2 electric vehicle, alongside the BMW X2. As the name suggests, it receives an all-electric powertrain and EV-specific design tweaks.
