New BMW M5 Teaser Confirms the Illuminated Grille is Here to Stay
The new-generation BMW M5 is confirmed to feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain delivering an electric-only range of 70km.
BMW has teased the new-generation M5 sedan again ahead of its global debut. While the teaser doesn't show much of the sedan, it reveals a massive illuminated kidney grille at the front. While this teaser is inviting mixed reactions from enthusiasts all over, BMW bringing the iconic grille to the updated M5 means that they strongly believe in it and can offer it on future models as well. The teaser image also reveals that the new BMW M5 is arriving soon in the US. As far as the Indian market is concerned, we expect the company to introduce this model by late 2024 or early 2025.
If camouflaged prototypes officially revealed last month are any indication, expect the upcoming BMW M5 to sport a redesigned bumper with angular air intakes. In profile, the vehicle will likely have sporty side skirts and lightweight wheels supported by a high-performance braking system. Expect the rear bumper to get an update as well. The expected bits also include a four-tailpipe exhaust system.
It’s almost reveal time.

New BMW M5: Powertrain
Under the hood, the new BMW M5 is confirmed to get a plug-in hybrid powertrain offering an electric-only range of 70km. Other details are under wraps; however, we expect the vehicle to use the familiar 4.4-litre V8 twin-turbo engine, backed by an 18.6kWh battery pack and an 8-speed automatic transmission-mounted electric motor. In the XM Label SUV, this setup churns out the combined 728bhp and 1,000Nm of peak torque. According to industry reports, the new model will be the heaviest of all the M5 iterations, weighing at 2,435kg.
Although BMW has yet to reveal the launch date, it says that the 2025 BMW M5 will go on sale first, with the M5 Touring to follow at a later date. The M5 will be globally offered in sedan and wagon body styles.
