New BMW 1 Series Design Patented in India

BMW is likely to reintroduce the 1 Series to the Indian market soon, as the German automaker has filed a design patent for the model.

BMW India has filed a design patent for the fourth-generation BMW 1 Series hatchback, sparking rumours of its return to the Indian market. Globally unveiled in mid-2024, the new 1 Series features a bold design and advanced features that set it apart. While a patent filing doesn’t confirm a launch, it signals BMW’s interest in reintroducing this premium hatchback to India. If launched, the 1 Series would meet the rising demand for stylish and feature-packed compact cars. Built on the same platform as its predecessor, the latest 1 Series has undergone significant upgrades. Highlights include mild-hybrid technology in the 120 and 120d variants, delivering better performance and improved fuel efficiency.

The new BMW 1 Series showcases a fresh, modern design inspired by BMW’s latest styling. Its bold grille is paired with sleek, angular LED headlights, giving the front a sharp and assertive look. At the rear, updated LED taillights and a sculpted bumper enhance its sporty and elegant appeal. For the Indian market, the 1 Series is expected to offer the M Sport package as an option.

The redesigned BMW 1 Series interior focuses on modern technology and driver convenience. The dashboard features a sleek dual-screen setup with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Powered by the latest BMW iDrive with the intuitive QuickSelect interface, it delivers a smarter, simpler, and more engaging user experience.

BMW 1 Series: Engine

The BMW 1 Series offers a variety of engine options. For performance enthusiasts, the M135i xDrive features a powerful 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that delivers 296bhp and 400Nm of torque. For daily driving, the 120 variant comes with a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine offering 154bhp and 240Nm of torque.

Additionally, the 120d is equipped with a 2.0-litre diesel engine generating 148bhp and 360Nm of torque, along with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology that enhances fuel economy and reduces emissions. All engines are paired with a smooth-shifting 7-speed Steptronic transmission.
