Audi has provided an early preview of the 2026 A6 Avant, stirring excitement ahead of its official unveiling on March 4. Nearly 50 years after the Audi 100 Avant first made its debut, Audi is introducing the latest generation of the A6, setting a new benchmark for premium full-size travel. Audi initially intended to rename the combustion-powered A6 as the A7 to create a clearer distinction from the all-electric A6 e-tron. However, the company has since revised its strategy, deciding to retain the A6 nameplate for continuity. Speaking on the new product, CEO Gernot Döllner stated, 'We are continuing the legacy of the Avant. The new Audi A6 blends sophisticated, dynamic styling with outstanding aerodynamics. Its efficient yet powerful drivetrain options, paired with state-of-the-art suspension technology, deliver an optimal balance of sportiness and comfort, ensuring a first-class driving experience.' This release is part of the carmaker’s ongoing product strategy, initiated in 2024, aimed at modernising and revitalising its lineup.
As competition intensifies, Audi is reinforcing its market position, with Döllner highlighting the A6’s role in refreshing a key model series.

Audi also released a teaser image, hinting at a sleeker, more refined wagon design. The new lighting signature includes a full-width LED strip at the rear, enhancing its modern appeal.

Previously leaked images reveal additional styling details, such as sculpted bodywork, a gently contoured rear, wraparound LED taillights connected by a lightbar, and dual exhaust outlets. The front end features a more prominent single-frame grille positioned lower, complemented by reworked LED headlights that give the car a sharper, more aggressive stance.
New Audi A6 Avant: Platform and Engine
Underpinning the new A6 Avant is the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC), an advanced iteration of the MLB Evo platform. This upgraded architecture will be gradually phased into VW's lineup, replacing MLB Evo across several models, including the Lamborghini Urus, Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne, Bentley Bentayga, and the Audi Q8.
The upcoming model is expected to offer a range of gasoline and diesel powertrains, all equipped with mild-hybrid technology to enhance fuel efficiency. Meanwhile, the high-performance RS6 is rumoured to transition from its traditional V8 engine to a plug-in hybrid V6, reportedly producing up to 715bhp.

Performance enthusiasts can also look forward to sportier variants, including the S6 and RS6. Spy images of camouflaged prototypes suggest that the RS6 Avant will be distinguished by larger wheels, a wider body, and aggressive aerodynamic enhancements, reinforcing its identity as a high-performance wagon.
This upcoming Audi model is set to rival the BMW 5-Series Touring as well as the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate, with full details to be disclosed during its global debut.
