Audi, the renowned German premium carmaker, has unveiled the new A5 and A5 estate, which are the A4's replacement in the brand's global lineup. According to the company, this update is part of its new naming strategy for next-generation vehicles, which includes even numbers for electric cars and odd numbers for conventional combustion engines. Furthermore, the new-gen A5 series is the first to use Audi's Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) platform. Pre-orders for the new A5 will open this month and the model will arrive in Germany and other European nations by November. The price of the base-spec A5 sedan will begin at EUR 45,200 (roughly Rs 41.17 lakh).

New Audi A5: Styling Cues
In keeping with the company's current design philosophy, the exterior of the new A5 models is sleeker and cleaner. The A5 variants feature a low-slung design, bigger wheels, and an expanded wheelbase. The front fascia is redesigned with a slimmer LED headlight arrangement, silver accents below, and a new honeycomb grille design. With revised alloy wheels, the A5's side profile has pronounced shoulder and fender lines, along with sunken door handles, giving it a stunning appeal. The sleek rear end of the A5 has a boot-lip spoiler, gloss-black diffuser, rectangular exhaust tailpipes, silver accents, and a sculpted bumper. The 3D LED headlights and taillights use Audi's iconic matrix OLED with unique signature lighting elements.
New Audi A5: Under the Hood
Initial powertrain options for the A5 will be a 48V mild hybrid and a combustion engine. With the addition of a centrally located powertrain generator to the standard integrated starter generator, Audi's cutting-edge MHEV Plus technology allows for improved efficiency and regenerative braking in hybrid vehicles. The benefit of this system is that it produces 24bhp and 230Nm of torque, and it can now recover up to 33.5bhp, which is more than three times the 11bhp maximum of the previous S4.
Audi's 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine is available with 150bhp or 201bhp, with the Quattro AWD system being an optional feature for the latter. The 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, 201bhp engine powering the A5 diesel is equipped with the MHEV Plus technology. The top of the range is the S5, which produces 362bhp from a 3.0-litre V6 engine paired with a mild hybrid system. A plug-in hybrid powertrain will likely join the global A5 lineup in 2025.
New Audi A5: Interior
In terms of tech, the Q6 e-tron and the new A5 are similar. The Audi MMI displays, comprising the Digital Stage, are among the user-centric features and the focal point of the A5's interior design. The free-standing Audi MMI panoramic display employs OLED technology and includes the Audi virtual cockpit, featuring an 11.9-inch driver display and a 14.5-inch MMI central infotainment unit. The dashboard also incorporates an optional 10.9-inch MMI front passenger display. On the other hand, drivers can control infotainment and vehicle systems via a heads-up display.
Other features come in the form of wireless phone charging, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated and powered front seats with memory functions, a powered tailgate, multi-zone automatic climate control, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The safety features include multiple airbags, electronic stability control, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree surround view camera with front and rear parking sensors, and Audi's Parking Assist.
